Gemini has vast project experience demonstrated over 30 years in the energy industry. Gemini has executed projects for gas plants, midstream, in situ SAGD and heavy industrial projects, each project unique to our client’s needs. Through our expansive service offerings, Gemini has the capability to oversee projects from the beginning to the end through our unique design-build advantage. Included below are examples of our project experience.

Gas Plant

Gemini was responsible for the regulatory, FEED, detailed design and commissioning of this sour gas plant. All the engineering was carried out by Gemini, including the PLC Programming. The plant was expanded through four phases to its present capacity of 140 MMSCFD. Gemini performed a process and economic study comparing propane refrigeration to a turbo-expander deep cut process, complete with development of HYSIS models for gas plant liquids recovery. The work included modeling of a turbo-expander with a de-methanizer for a throughput of 150 MMSCFD along with a high-level capital and operating cost summary.

Sulphur Removal Unit

On this full design-build project, Gemini provided the equipment, material and labour required for a fully assembled SRU Contractor Tower Package. Our dedicated team carried out the process design regarding all aspects of the facility. We prepared P Scavenger disposal tanks

Pilot Plant

The Pilot Plant is an example of a project that provided full design-build-install service. This project had a heavily modularized design and the work included completing detailed design for the Pilot Plant, Well Pads and Field Facilities; fabricating the modules and pipe spools; and plant installation. This project highlighted our ability to bring the combined capabilities of Gemini to bear on a single objective. By doing this, we were able to advance the project from detailed engineering to steam-in-ground with significant schedule reduction, translating directly to capital cost savings.

Synthetic Crude Storage

Gemini was chosen to execute a portion of our client’s expansion of their storage capabilities near Fort Saskatchewan, AB. This project involved the mechanical construction to connect an incoming pipeline to an existing tank farm and underground storage cavern. Approximately 5 kms of piping and 126 tonnes of structural steel were installed in both brown and greenfield areas of the plant.

Pipe supports, modules, and portions of the pipe spools were fabricated in Gemini’s shop facilities in Ponoka and Fort Saskatchewan and transported to site for installation.

Sour Gas Processing Facility

After a 12-year hiatus, our client decided to re-activate their Sour Gas Processing Facility. Gemini switched over the old amine plant from a proprietary amine to MDEA and oversaw the demolition of the old ancillary systems. The new sour gas plant was refurbished to handle 100 MMSCFD of sour gas along with a gas dehydration and compression system. Following a reactivation study, several components and systems were identified as requiring replacement or significant upgrading in the facility before safely re-starting. The primary project objective was to provide a cost-effective system design for replacement the equipment and systems while utilizing much of the existing process equipment and adhering to a strict project timeline. Gemini was able to maintain a tight project budget while providing our client with a range of cost-estimated options for successful reactivation.
