The Trump Administration Is Creating An HBCU-Specific Executive Order — But What Does That Mean?

Omarosa Manigault is apparently leading the charge to get the president to sign an order that will benefit Historically Black Colleges and Universities

The White House is apparently working on an executive order aimed at HBCUs following President Donald Trump’s Black History Month commemorative meeting earlier this week.

The event, which was attended only by Black Trump surrogates from his administration and election campaign, turned to HBCU’s after a mention of how the schools fared under President Barack Obama. Omarosa Manigault, who was named director of communications for the Office of the Public Liaison last month, will be leading the charge.

According to Buzzfeed . Paris Dennard, a political commentator, brought up the future of HBCUs during the meeting, driving home the fact that support was badly needed. Attendees apparently linked the declining state of the institutions to President Obama’s administration.

“[Trump] was shocked and upset to learn what happened under the previous administration,” Dennard told Buzzfeed .

When Trump asked what he could do to help in the meeting this week, Manigault volunteered that she was working on getting an executive order on HBCUs together. She refused to confirm such an order was in the works to Buzzfeed :

“I can however reinforce the president’s commitment to support historically black colleges and universities, as well as school choice as he stated throughout the campaign,” she said.

We’ll be keeping our eye out on any action involving Trump and HBCU’s.
